Team Productivity: Async Rituals That Don't Drain Anyone

The team productivity playbook that ditches half the meetings. Standups, retros, and handoffs — all running async in Tellzm.

Most team rituals are calendar tax. The ones that aren't, run async.

If your team runs a daily standup that takes 25 minutes for 8 people, you're spending 16 hours of engineering time a week on a status update. The standup isn't the problem — the synchronous part is. Here's the async version.

The async standup

  • Each person posts 3 lines in the team Space by 10am local: did, doing, blocked.
  • Read the thread on your own time. React with 👁️ when you've read it.
  • If you're blocked, tag the unblocker. The async standup itself is not the unblock — the tag is.

The async retro

Open a retro page on Friday. Each teammate adds 1–3 items under 'went well' and 'didn't go well' — over the weekend if they want. Monday: 30-minute live session to vote and decide on actions. Total time per person: 20 minutes async + 30 minutes synchronous.

Handoffs without 'do you have a sec'

Every handoff goes through a task with a checklist. The receiver checks off as they verify. No DMs, no calendar invites, no lost context. Three days from now, the trail is in Tellzm — not in someone's Slack history.

A meeting you don't need is the most expensive thing on your calendar.
